The physics used with medical purposes has saved many human lifes through the last one hundred years. Its first use was in diagnosis. And the second one was in therapy. As a diagnostic technique is where it has given the best results. Also is where the physicians have the strong experience. The physicians are still learning. For sure the physics will save many human lifes when the actual techniques being perfectioned and the physician get another ones.
The use of the physics with diagnostic purposes almost present no problems. The procedure is almost limited to obtain static images, digitalize them, and computarize them, etc. The techniques were originated to study inert matter; in spite of this, the techniques apparently present no problems to the patient.
The use of the physics with therapeutic purposes present serious difficulties. The therapies normally are based on radiation or on the deposition of radioactive material, to destroy anomalous alive tissue. The control and focalization of the administered dose is the main problem. Physically still without a complete solution.
Using diagnostic techniques, the physicians and the physicists explore the alive human body. The obtained tridimensional images let the surgeons do in a better way their diagnosis and therapies, and of course, monitor the development of their treatments.
The used treatments, or the prescriptions of the treatments, are based on the functions of the treated organs. The physicists and the physicians study the functioning of the human organs, or animal organs, through the use of diagnostic techniques. The more exact the knowledge about the treated organ, the more effective could be the therapy.
The study of the functioning of the brain and the connection between their functions and the function of the rest of the human body organs have deserved special attention from the physicists and from the physicians. The cerebral regions related with the speech, the attention, the tactile sensations, etc. have been identified. There are still many things to investigate and to explore in the brain. The functions of memory, sleep, computation, vision, equilibrium, orientation, volition, etc. are still a mysteries.
The physicists and the physicians, in the days to come will solve those mysteries.
